Guidelines for urgent referral:

Soft Tissue Sarcoma

  • Size > 5cm
  • Enlarging
  • Painful
  • Deep to fascia
  • Recurrence at site of previous excision (whatever the previous histology)

Primary Bone Tumour

  • Night pain or non-mechanical pain (especially in adolescence)
  • Radiographic appearances suggesting bone tumour

Metastatic Spinal Tumour

  • Suspected spinal cord compression
  • Contact spinal surgeons for emergency admission

Metastatic Bone Tumour

  • Suspected pathological or impending fracture
  • Contact Oncological orthopaedic surgeons for emergency admission.
