Visiting Times

11:00 - 20:00

Wrekin ward primarily looks after patients in the acute phase following spinal cord injury (six to eight weeks after injury).

There are 15 beds, seven of which are single side rooms.

We have a dedicated team of consultants, doctors, psychologists, resettlement team physiotherapists and occupational therapists that will be involved in your care from the time you are referred to the centre.

We believe that care should be essentially patient centered, provided in a safe and caring environment and should achieve acceptable standards of quality and excellence. Any injury to the back or neck is serious and it is important that patients take the advice of the medical and nursing staff.

Each patient is unique as an individual and will require different equipment and treatment depending upon their personal needs.

We realise that this can be a difficult time and whilst we do not know exactly how this would feel, we try to put ourselves in the same situation and visualize how we would like to be talked to and cared for.

The ward advocates open visiting for parents and close family between 11:00 - 20:00 and we limit the number of visitors to three per bed. Please note, we have limited storage space available.

Welcome to Wrekin Ward

As ward manager, I would like to warmly welcome you to our acute ward, Wrekin ward. We look forward to caring for you during your stay and hope this web page will answer some questions you may have and provide you with information about Wrekin ward. Should you or your family wish to discuss any aspect of your care, please feel free to ask myself or a member of the team.

The ward team and I are dedicated to ensure that all your care needs are individualised and our  aim is to ensure care delivery is completed with care and compassion.  We undertake the responsibility for the provision of total care for our spinal cord patients, appropriate to their individual needs and expectations.

We have a dedicated team of consultants, doctors, psychologists, resettlement team physiotherapists and occupational therapists that will be involved in your care from the time you are referred to the Midland Centre for Spinal Injury.
As a team, the quality of your care is our first priority. If we fall short of the mark in your opinion, please let us know and give us your feedback. We like you to be open and honest with how we deliver your care and listen to all comments constructively, in the hope that we can improve our care for you and other people that may use the service in the future.

My aim as a ward manager is to continue to strive to improve the ward environment and care delivery. If you have any problems or concerns that you would like to discuss with me, please mention this to a member of staff who will pass on the message to me.

Let me know your experience on Wrekin ward, your comments, compliments and complaints so that we can listen, learn, improve and respond.

Thank You
