COVID-19 Vaccine: second dose appointment

Release Date: 11/03/2021

COVID-19 Vaccine: second dose appointment

If you have chosen to be vaccinated in one of the local vaccination centres (by booking online through the National Booking System or by calling 119), you will have booked both the first and second vaccinations at the same time.

If you have been contacted by your GP to book your first dose:

  • You might have received an appointment for the second dose, OR
  • Your GP might choose to contact you at a later time to arrange a booking for the second dose (closer to when your second dose is due)
If you already have a second vaccination appointment booked, you don’t need to do anything else – just attend the site at the time and date given.

Useful to know:
  • You will have the second dose 11 to 12 weeks after having the first dose, in line with the national clinical guidance.
  • If you haven't been offered a second dose appointment when booking the first one, you will be contacted about 11 weeks after you received your first dose.
  • The centre that gave you your first vaccination is responsible for ensuring you are contacted to receive your second dose.
  • When going for the second dose appointment, please take your ID and the card you were given when you received your first vaccine. This details which vaccine you received so that vaccinators can be sure you are receiving the correct second dose.
  • The NHS is currently asking people to attend the same place for both their vaccination doses.
