Dedicated nurse named October Health Hero

Staff nurse Jill Higginson has been recognised for her commitment and dedication to patients and colleagues – being named the latest winner of the Health Hero Award at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

Jill is part of the Recovery Team in the Oswestry-based hospital’s Theatre department and received five nominations from Recovery Manager Kath Hughes and Staff Nurses Claire Ilott, Nicola Mazi, Ann Bishop and Jayne Beech.

They hailed the experienced nurse as someone always willing to go above and beyond for patients and colleagues alike.

Citations included Claire’s, which stated: “Jill always goes the extra mile for her patients and colleagues. She cheers us all up with her smile. Previously, she’s stayed nine hours extra at the end of her shift when the department was short staffed and thought nothing of it.”

Nicola added: “She shows enormous dedication to her patients and will do anything to ensure their needs are met.”

And Ann said: “She always puts her patients first; she’s a very compassionate and caring nurse.”

Jill said: “It’s a complete shock, but also an honour to have been chosen as this month’s Health Hero winner.

“It’s lovely to know my team nominated me and I can’t thank them enough! I feel very loved and supported by the whole department.”

The award was presented to Jill by Chief Executive Mark Brandreth.

He said: “It’s clear by her colleagues’ words that Jill is a highly valued member of staff and her devotion to her patients is an inspiration to everyone.

“I would like to thank Jill for the part she is playing in the delivery of outstanding patient care at RJAH.”
