Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries - Coping with Bed Rest - Leaflet

Following a spinal cord injury it is not unusual for patients to need to spend a period of time lying flat in bed. This is often the case immediately following the injury, to allow optimum recovery. In addition some people require bed rest at other times as a result of skin problems and lying in bed enables them to keep pressure off vulnerable areas. Being on bed rest can be very restrictive and many people find it difficult to cope. This leaflet provides information about being on bed rest and includes some ideas about ways of managing this time.
