Staff Self-Testing

Regular testing of asymptomatic NHS staff has now launched to support the NHS to control infection, reduce staff absence and support covid-19 and non covid-19 clinical pathways.

The testing uses lateral flow devices on nasal swab samples.

As a reminder: a staff member who has tested positive for Covid-19 will be unable to start self-testing for at least 90 days after their positive test was taken. Any staff members, who have tested positive within the last 90 days will need to liaise with the Trust to track the date at which the self-testing should start.

It is our ambition to roll out the lateral flow test to all staff, however until we take delivery of further test kits, we will initially have to prioritise access to certain staff groups. A list of these staff groups can be found here.

How to get your lateral flow test kit

The first step is to complete the covid registration and consent forms by clicking here. [You will not be able to access your box of tests without completing this step].

Test kits can be collected from our Test Kit Distribution Cabin, which is located opposite the Estates and Facilities Department and Hydropool Swimming Pool.

Please ensure you bring with you your Staff ID Badge and Staff Payroll Number. Test kits will not be allocated without both forms of identification.

Tests kits can be collected between the hours 8am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday.

You do not need an appointment to collect test kit, however do ask that managers stagger collection times for their teams to prevent large queues.

Please be aware that there will be certain times in the day where demand for collections will be high. Regular communications will be sent out informing staff of busy and quieter periods to assist with the management of the queue flows.

When arriving, please ensure you maintain social distancing at all times and follow the instructions provided by the supervising staff in this area.

This short video which was produced by our Medical Illustration team outlines the process of getting your test kit:

How to submit your test results

After you have completed your test, you will need to submit your result - positive or negative - by filling out this form by clicking here.

The lateral flow test has shown to be up to 80% accurate. If you test positive, you will be asked to tell us straight away, self-isolate and you will then be referred for the standard PCR test to confirm that result. You will need to tell us by calling our People Services Absence Reporting Line on 01691 404467 – this is the same one used at present to report any absence or to request a covid test, if you are displaying symptoms.
