Covid-19 Vaccination Services for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital is proudly acting as the lead employer for the Vaccination Services being set up across Shropshire Telford and Wrekin. 

Roles are now available in those centres that are open, and as new centres open.  Because of the nature of the services we are offering we can be really flexible – offering full-time, part time and bank hours contracts.
 

Vaccination delivery services

Our vaccination delivery services will operate out of the following locations:

  • Vaccination Centres:

    • Telford
    • ​Shrewsbury
 
  • Local Vaccination Services:
    • Ludlow
    • ​Bridgnorth
    • Whitchurch
    • ​Market Drayton
    • Oswestry
       

Existing NHS colleagues are supporting the jobs, but more are needed to make sure other important services are not adversely impacted.

There are opportunities for current and retired healthcare professionals, but also for non-clinical staff in administrative, reception, and other front-of-house roles.

Volunteers are also required to support the rapid covid testing centres and vaccination services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

 

Clinical roles

Our clinical roles are suitable for those with current clinical experience, but we are also urging staff who may have retired from clinical practice to consider returning to the NHS to support the Covid vaccination response.
 

Available roles
 

  • Registered Healthcare Professionals

This includes Nurses, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Radiographers (who inject as part of their normal practice).

As a Registered Health Care Professional working in immunisations, the postholder is key to the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine; undertaking activities such as: obtaining consent, clinical assessment, dilution and drawing up of the vaccine from multi-dose vials and post vaccine observations support.

In particular, the post holder will be responsible for: 

  • The configuration of the vaccination pod and vaccination station.
  • ​Obtain consent agreements
  • Conducting clinical assessments.
  • ​The review of complex medical histories and potential adverse reactions.
  • Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures and ensuring contemporaneous records are kept.

 The Registered Healthcare Professional role is paid at Band 5.

Registered Health Care Professional – Immunisations (jobs.nhs.uk)

 

  • Healthcare Assistants

As a Healthcare Assistant for immunisations, the postholder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering a safe and effective service for the mass delivery of vaccinations for the COVID-19 vaccine(s). The post holder will undertake a supportive role under the supervision of a registered member of staff.

In particular, the post holder will be responsible for: 

  • Support with the configuration of the vaccination station and waste control.
  • Support the vaccinator in the delivery of the vaccination.
  • Responsible for sanitisation and infection control (e.g. wipe down surfaces).
  • ​Support with patient flow

  • Administrative Roles

Providing administrative support to the vaccination site’s staff, key activities will include:

  • Providing admin support on the vaccination activity by supporting the immuniser with vaccination delivery and vaccination records.
  • Recording vaccination consent and marking completion.
  • ​Maintain, request and transfer confidential patient records, ensuring they are stored in an accurate and secure filing system.  Adhere to confidentiality as per the site’s policy

  • Reception and Front-of-House Roles

Our Reception and Front-of-House teams will provide reception and administrative support at patient arrival to mass vaccination sites, key activities will include:

  • Patient check-in and pod allocation.
  • ​Initial patient health check to ensure they are COVID-19 symptom free and escalate more challenging scenarios.
  • Verifying patient documentation and ensure they meet basic eligibility criteria to get a vaccination.
  • ​Maintaining accurate records and ensures strict data confidentiality.

Volunteering


Volunteers are needed to support rapid covid testing centres and vaccination services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. The volunteer recruitment programme is being led by Shropshire Rural Communities Charity (RCC).

Everyone who registers their interest to volunteer will be risk assessed and before starting their role will receive the appropriate training and induction.
